Why Start Early

Why baby swimming from around 6 months?

These early months are a beautiful window. Babies are naturally curious, still comfortable being held close, and ready to build a warm, positive relationship with the water, long before fear ever has a chance to set in.

  • A gentle head start on safety. Early, regular time in the water lays the first foundations of water safety and awareness.
  • Confidence that lasts. Happy, repeated experiences now help your child grow into a calm, capable swimmer later.
  • Beautiful bonding time. Skin-to-skin, eye-to-eye and singing together, these are lessons you’ll both treasure.
  • Routine, movement and sleep. A warm swim is wonderful for little bodies, appetite and afternoon naps.
Not quite 6 months? That’s okay. Before then, we simply encourage gentle bath play at home to build familiarity, then we’d love to welcome you into the pool when your baby’s ready.

The Pod Squad Difference

Why Northern Beaches parents choose Pod Squad

We’re a family-run boutique swim school, small enough to know every baby by name, and everything we do is built around gentle progress and happy little swimmers.

Warm 32°C indoor pool

Our heated indoor pool stays beautifully warm and comfortable, so tiny swimmers stay relaxed, whatever the weather outside.

You’re in the water too

Every baby class is parent-and-baby. You hold and support your little one the whole time, so they always feel safe.

Small classes, max 8 babies

Little groups mean more attention, more encouragement and gentle progress at your baby’s own pace.

Water safety foundations

From the very first lesson we build the early awareness and skills that keep children safer around water.

Experienced instructors

Warm, qualified teachers who genuinely love working with babies, and know how to read every little cue.

Family-run & boutique

Flexible make-up lessons

Life with a baby is unpredictable. Baby classes include flexible make-ups during the term, so a missed week isn’t a lost lesson.

Easy parking

Weekday parking in the quiet cul-de-sac, and weekend parking inside the school grounds. One less thing to juggle.

Lessons all year round

We run every term, all year, so your baby keeps building confidence without long breaks between lessons.

A Pod Squad Family
We started at Pod Squad when Hazel was a baby, and the difference is everything. She went from clinging to me in the water to giggling, splashing and can’t-wait-for-Saturday excited. The teachers are so warm, the pool is lovely and toasty, and it never feels like a big impersonal swim school. It feels like family.

A Peek Inside

What happens in a baby class

Every 30-minute lesson is playful, gentle and full of songs, cuddles and encouragement, with you holding your baby the whole way through.

1

Settle & splash

We ease in with familiar songs and gentle splashing so your baby feels safe, warm and happy in the water.

2

Play with purpose

Toys, floats and noodles turn skills into fun, reaching, kicking, floating on their back and grabbing on to you.

3

Gentle confidence & safety

At your baby’s pace, we introduce breath and submersion readiness, and safe entries, exits and reaching for the wall.

4

Cuddles & cheers

We finish on a high with a favourite song and lots of praise, so every lesson ends with a smile.

It happens, and there’s no need to feel embarrassed. Double swim-nappies greatly reduce the risk. If it does occur, we calmly follow our health and hygiene procedures to clear and treat the area, and we’ll help you sort everything out.
