Why baby swimming from around 6 months?
These early months are a beautiful window. Babies are naturally curious, still comfortable being held close, and ready to build a warm, positive relationship with the water, long before fear ever has a chance to set in.
- A gentle head start on safety. Early, regular time in the water lays the first foundations of water safety and awareness.
- Confidence that lasts. Happy, repeated experiences now help your child grow into a calm, capable swimmer later.
- Beautiful bonding time. Skin-to-skin, eye-to-eye and singing together, these are lessons you’ll both treasure.
- Routine, movement and sleep. A warm swim is wonderful for little bodies, appetite and afternoon naps.

We started at Pod Squad when Hazel was a baby, and the difference is everything. She went from clinging to me in the water to giggling, splashing and can’t-wait-for-Saturday excited. The teachers are so warm, the pool is lovely and toasty, and it never feels like a big impersonal swim school. It feels like family.Jodi Hazel’s mum · Pod Squad family
What happens in a baby class
Every 30-minute lesson is playful, gentle and full of songs, cuddles and encouragement, with you holding your baby the whole way through.
Settle & splash
We ease in with familiar songs and gentle splashing so your baby feels safe, warm and happy in the water.
Play with purpose
Toys, floats and noodles turn skills into fun, reaching, kicking, floating on their back and grabbing on to you.
Gentle confidence & safety
At your baby’s pace, we introduce breath and submersion readiness, and safe entries, exits and reaching for the wall.
Cuddles & cheers
We finish on a high with a favourite song and lots of praise, so every lesson ends with a smile.

By around 6 months, babies have usually developed more head and neck control and are ready to enjoy structured water play. Before 6 months, we simply encourage gentle bath play at home to build familiarity with water.
